Chef Angelo Vivolo Suggests a Feast Fit for the Hungry Explorer in Your Family

Angelo Vivolo knows Italian food. The owner of Vivolo Restaurants in Manhattan was raised above his family's restaurant, Villa Vivolo in Brooklyn. The restaurant “gene” in his family comes from his grandfather, Carmine Vivolo, who grew up in the region of Campagna in the town of Pozzuoli. His grandfather opened Villa Vivolo in Brooklyn in 1931. Angelo, having been assigned every job from pot scrubber to potato peeler, decided early on that the restaurant business was not for him.
In 1976, however, the restaurant "gene" surfaced, and Angelo purchased La Pomme on Madison at 61st street. A year later he opened Vivolo on 74th street; followed by Anche Vivolo, which he recently re-opened as bar.vetro with his son, and fourth generation restaurateur, Frank. In addition to Vivolo and bar. vetro, Angelo Vivolo also owns Cucina Vivolo on 74th and Cucina Vivolo on 58th offering a cafe ambiance and take-out and delivery service.
Angelo serves on the board of governors of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, a philanthropic organization. He has co-chaired many charitable industry events including Share Our Strength and New York UNICEF & UNIFEM benefits. He has served as a member of the Advisory Commission for the New York City Technical College, Hotel and Restaurant Management Department; corporate member of the Culinary Institute of America; member of the Italian- American Chamber of Commerce, Inc.; member of the James Beard Foundation; and in June 1998, Angelo was honored with the title of Cavaliere by the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy conferred by President Scalfaro of Italy.
For more information please look at his website at www.VivoloNYC.com. The website, the newest addition to the Vivolo family contains information on all three restaurants along with information that could help you plan your next party either in one of our restaurants or at your home.
